I am a high desert textile artist. I dye silk fabrics in my Reno studio. The beautiful colors of Northern Nevada inspire me. The lovely subtle colors of the mountains in the distance provide contrast with the vibrant hues in my garden just beyond my studio door.
Each silk scarf is unique. I mix the color stock solutions, and dye each scarf one at a time using various techniques. Some colors are applied with a brush using a watercolor style. Others are Shibori resist dyed. I love watching the colors flow and find their way on the wet silk. The finished scarves are washable and colorfast.
I have been designing professionally since 1970. Inspired by the Navajo weavers, I built my first loom, and set up a weaving studio on a little farm alongside the Truckee River, east of Reno, Nevada. I wove rugs and saddle blankets for the first few years, and then began designing clothing. Inspired by the lovely desert colors around me, I dyed the yarns for the fabrics I created. In 2015, I transitioned from weaving textiles to dyeing silks.
I have a passion for color! My work has been exhibited in national juried gallery shows, including the American Crafts Council, and sold in shops and galleries throughout the country.
